Sleep in Our House Has Always Been an Adventure

Rethinking Sleep for Neurodivergent Families

In our home, sleep isn’t something that just happens—it’s something we have to earn. My neurodivergent daughter doesn’t simply get tired and drift off; for her, sleep is like unlocking a hidden level in a video game. Some nights, her mind races with a million thoughts; other nights, the world just feels too loud, too bright, too much to settle down. And honestly? I get it. Because sleep isn’t just about closing your eyes—it’s about feeling safe enough, calm enough, and comfortable enough to let go.

I’ve spent years testing every trick in the book—weighted blankets, white noise, bedtime yoga, even making up stories about the moon whispering lullabies. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: good sleep isn’t one-size-fits-all. Especially not for the neurodivergent. Or for their exhausted parents.

The Real Key to Better Sleep

The real key? It’s not about forcing sleep but about creating the right environment for it.
Sleep isn’t a battle to win—it’s a relationship to nurture.

Rethinking Rest: A Sleep-Friendly World

Instead of trying to “fix” sleep, we’ve shifted our focus to making it more inviting—softer lighting, predictable rhythms, permission to rest in a way that actually works for us. Some nights, my daughter falls asleep easily, and those moments feel like a little bit of magic. Other nights, it’s a struggle, but we’ve learned to meet each challenge with patience and creativity.

And when I finally get a good night’s sleep too? Well, that’s nothing short of a miracle.

Because sleep isn’t just about the hours we log—it’s about how we feel when we wake up. And that’s exactly why I started Moonbunny—to help others find sleep solutions that aren’t just effective but also comforting, personal, and real.

If you’re on this journey too, you’re not alone. Let’s figure this out together.
